ACHIEVEMENTS OF NRCM
Development
of single spore isolates (SSI)and hybrids of Agaricus bisporus out
of which two SSIs NCS-100 and NCS-101 and a hybrid NCH-102 have
been released for the benefit of Indian growers.
A
germplasm bank with more than 200 cultures of wild and cultivated
fungi has been established.
Identification
of two superior strains of summer white button mushroom (Agaricus
bitorquis) viz. NCB-13 and NCB-6 which are suitable for cultivation
in plains and low hills.
Cultivation
technology of shiitake mushroom has also been standardized and
will be available for growers in the near future.
Some
bio-fertilizers have been identified which help in enhancing the
yield of white button mushroom .
The
Centre has succeeded in enhancing the quality and storage period
of white button mushroom by using calcium chloride spray.
It
has identified some new casing materials out of which mushroom
spent compost is commonly used by mushroom growers .
The
Centre has succeeded in managing the wet bubble disease through
bio-pesticide leafpep.
The
Centre has identified a fungicide sporgon which is very effective
in controlling the diseases like T.viridi , V.fungicola , C.dendroides
and S.chrysospermum.
Four
new mites of white button mushroom namely Histostoma sp., tyrophagus
sp., Neoselius sp. and Lcidonychus species have been identified
which can help in bio- control of insects.
The
Centre has succeeded in increasing the yield of white button mushroom
by spraying the hormone veradex.
A
yellow light trap has been found to be very effective for trapping
flies.
Many wild mushrooms were collected for the first time from Himachal
Pradesh and other parts of India.
The
Centre has developed technologies for production of many value-
added products of mushrooms -dried , pickle , soup powder , etc.
The
Centre was awarded the " Best Institution Award " for the year 1999 by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research,
for its pioneering efforts in developing , improving and disseminating
high yielding mushroom strains , improved technologies and popularizing
mushroom production in the country.
