Training :
Mushroom
is a non-traditional crop, newly introduced in India and its cultivation
technology being much technical needs a lot of emphasis on training.
The basic principle for organizing a successful mushroom cultivation
training course is obviously "learning by doing". This
requires a lot of inputs in the planning as well as implementation
of the courses besides the required basic infrastructures. Over
the years, the Centre has been able to develop adequate facilities
for training which include Auditorium/Projection room with modern
audio-visual gadgets, a Library and Information centre, a museum,
a spawn production unit, a composting/pasteurization unit, growing
rooms both for button as well as specialty mushrooms and last but
not the least a 50 bed training hostel. With all these facilities
available, the Centre gives greater emphasis over in-house training
courses. Presently the Centre conducts 6 types of training courses
of different levels to meet the requirements of different groups
of trainees :
Entrepreneurs
training course : This is meant to serve the personnel of existing
mushroom farms as well as the entrepreneurs who are likely to put
up future mushroom farms.
Training
for Subject Matter Specialists (SMS), is meant for extension
Specialists, Horticulture Officers and other functionaries of the
departments and universities etc. who are basically trainers and
for whom this training course serves as a refresher course. Who
in turn train the farmers in their functional areas through work
experience.
Introductory
training course for mushroom farmers : This course is primarily
aimed to serve the rural farmers who prefer to grow mushroom at
low to medium inputs level with a limited financial involvement.International
training course : This course is open to trainees drawn from
other countries particularly from rural under-developed/developing
countries in the neighborhood and is conducted in English medium.
Sponsored
training courses : The Centre organizes a few sponsored training
courses also either as on/ or off campus programs which are meant
(a) to serve the weaker sections e.g. poor and marginal farmers/farm
women from far-flung areas who can not afford to attend regular
training programmes and (b) to meet the specific needs of some development/financial
institutions, etc.
Individualized/customized
training : which is generally a short training course for individuals
to cover some specific areas only, e.g. training in spawn production,
composting, specialty mushroom cultivation, post harvest management
etc. as per the requirements of individual customers.
